Jake Sully is introduced as an average low ranking marine. He has a twin brother who was into the science scene who past away. Jake has also lost is legs so therefore is in a wheelchair. James Cameron introduces him by using Jakes voice over.

Due to his brothers death Jake then gets the opportunity to be his brothers Avatar. Jake never paid much attention to the science aspect of things being a marine so all of this is new to him. He hasn’t had the chance to learn the language or about the creatures of Pandora. Some of the scientists are unhappy about Jake taking his brothers place but Jake is happy to take it; to be in the action.

When Jake get’s taken outside the safe area and into Pandora he is affronted with creatures and chased away from the rest of the people he is with. They must leave before dark so are forced to leave Jake there overnight. Jake left overnight uses the survival skills he knows but that only gets him into more trouble. This trouble then leads him to meeting Neytiri who tells him that she sees that he has a good heart. This meeting of the two is the beginning of an important relationship.
Jake continues his Avatar existence learning about the Na’vi ways, along this journey he slowly falls in love with his teacher, Neytiri. Colonel bulldozes down the Tree of Voices after Jake and Neytiri mated underneath it. Jake sends Neytiri off and climbs up the bulldozer to the vision cameras and smashes them in until they no longer work.

Colonel rips Jake and Grace out of their Avatar consciousness. He is angry with Jake for smashing the camera and he won’t let them go back to their Avatar selves. Jake can either give up hope on the Avatars or he can find a way to talk to Colonel round and convince him to let him go back in and try and get the Avatar’s to move out of Hometree.

Jake, Grace and Norm are locked up and they have no way of helping the Avatars. Colonel has destroyed Hometree and is planning to further destroy all the other places that are precious and important to the Na’vi’s. Jake and Grace needed to get back in and save the Avatars and help them fight back.

After Jake has gone to the Na’vi’s and stood up as the rider of a new Toruk, suggesting that they call out to the other clans of Na’vi’s and ask for their help in a great battle against the sky people. The battle erupts and Na’vi’s with the home ground advantage win. Jake overcomes the colonel and Tsu-tey and Trudey are also lost.

The Na’vi’s take all of Pandora back and send the Sky people and all their weapons back to earth. Some remain, including Jake, who then persues a permanent Avatar consciousness through the eye of Eywa.
